Early Career Event

In conjunction with the ISIMS 2024 Miami conference, there will be a 3D printing

workshop for early career researchers (ECR).

Why 3D printing workshop?

  • 3D printing is used in building mobility spectrometers! Last years Best Poster was on Unleashing the Potential of 3D Printing: Continuous Fiber HeaterCreation for Advanced Ketone Analysis in Ion Mobility Spectrometry, by Simon Höving of Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften. For related articles on 3D printing and IMS, please see:

  • C. Drees et al, 3D-printing of a complete modular ion mobility spectrometer, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.mattod.2020.10.033

  • And because most attendees voted for an educational ECR event in the 2023 conference survey. We take conference surveys and feedback very seriously!

Event Details

  • Date and time: Tuesday July 23, 2024; 5:30 PM - 7:30 pm

  • Location: Moonlighter FabLab

  • Topic: 3D Printing Workshop

  • Cost: Free

Who can attend: ECRs (students, post-docs, and non-academic equivalent) registered for the ISIMS 2024 conference. As there is limited capacity, priority will be given to ECRs and non-FIU participants. Open slots will be offered to FIU participants, mid- and senior-career attendees.

How to register: Please register onsite at the conference. Hint: pay attention to the  conference announcements!

Participants must bring their own laptop or iPad to the workshop. 3D printing materials and one 3D print per participant are included in the workshop. Prints will be ready for pickup within 7-10 business days. International participants designs will be printed first. If your prints are not ready before your departure date, please co-ordinate with local organizers to have it shipped.
